In the United Kingdom, female freemasons often meet in halls owned by the male orders. This is fully approved by Grand Lodge. I have re-printed the official confirmation letter below.

Today, the United Grand Lodge Of England acknowledges Women’s Freemasonry. This is distinct from them saying “recognises, or includes”. You can read more about their view on their website. (Just Google UGLE.) The two female freemasons Grand Lodges are entirely autonomous jurisdictions, both from eachother and the male only UGLE.

NB. Members of The Eastern Star Organisation are absolutely not female Freemasons. They are simply members of a fraternal women’s club. (But Sometimes they are married to male Freemasons.)

Lions, Buffs, Elks, Kiwanis, Rotarians, Round Tablers, Mensa Members Inner Wheelers, or Rotarians are also not freemasons.

However, all are welcome as masons. Below are some Women Freemasons wearing beautiful embroidered regalia.

This is a recurring question and one on which we have recently received a few requests for clarifications.

There are no Ladies’ Masonic Orders that are officially “recognised” by the United Grand Lodge of England, as our United Grand Lodge of England Constitution states that members must only be male.

However, there are two womens’ Freemasonry Grand Lodges that we consider to be “regular” in their practice of Freemasonry.

We have an informal relationship with these two organisations, and have from time to time liaised on matters of mutual concern, and we regularly refer queries regarding women’s Freemasonry to them.

Both Grand Lodges are independent and autonomous from each-other.

We usually tell enquirers that the above organisations practise “regular” Freemasonry, but point out that there are some Grand Lodges and other apparently Masonic bodies that do not meet these standards, e.g. that do not require a belief in a Supreme Being, or that allow or encourage their members as such to participate in political matters, and that these Grand Lodges and bodies are not recognised by the United Grand Lodge of England as being Masonically regular.

It is in order to hire out Masonic buildings to Lodges affiliated to the two Ladies’ Grand Lodges listed above, as long as their meetings do not coincide with your Lodge meetings or any meeting of a Lodge under the UGLE.

Answer….You can, your information is incorrect. Many Lodges have open days, when anyone can visit and have a good look around.

In the London, the Grand Temple is open to all visitors, as is the Museum. The only time you cannot visit, is during a live ceremony.

Just like many other clubs, private and commercial organisations, freemasons have closed sessions.

In Muslim countries, women have little or no rights. Foreigners also have little or no rights. Your Mosque example is a very poor illustration of “openess”. Islam is divisive. You can’t go to visit Mecca if you are Jewish, Christian, Hindu or any other “infidel.” Muslims can become freemasons, however extremists would not be at home or welcome. Their facist beliefs would be incompatible.

A Masonic scholar is simply one who reads for greater understanding in his “quest for more light”.

He learns the meanings of each cryptogram (a figure or representation having a secret or mysterious significance),so that he may build on it to understand the whole.

The real goal of understanding, …the Masonic “light” which each of us seeks, is not how many books you’ve read, but whether you “get” their message in your heart.

So, as you can see, the history of Freemasonry is best represented by its Freemason symbols, which have come down to us through the ages.
